Florida Everglades Backwater Tour
Join us on a trip that Condé Nast Traveler voted one of the world’s best eco-tours and National Geographic Traveler recommended in its November 2004 issue: the Florida Everglades Backwater Tour. Travel the wild backwaters on a private tour with our experienced field biologists and naturalist guides for a day of discovery and exploration in one of the world’s most threatened and beautiful wild places – The Florida Everglades and Big Cypress Preserve.
After our driver picks you up, your personal tour guide en-route will introduce you to this vast ecosystem by bringing to life the natural and human history of the Glades.
Our first stop is a great opportunity to become familiar with a world-famous photographer and to view his stunning work. No one really expects to find an art gallery in the Everglades, but it’s there. The Big Cypress Gallery is a great reference point for the various habitats of the Everglades. Stroll between the black and white pictures that will awaken a true sense of understanding and respect for South Florida’s natural beauty. The ponds and waterways around this unique place are also teeming with wildlife.
We then move on to trail’s head, which leads you through biologically diverse ecosystems where you explore the wondrous Everglades backcountry in search of wading birds, river otters and the occasional alligator.
Wade with us in the crystal clear waters to discover lush cypress domes as native orchids and bromeliads hang overhead, and learn why conservationists have described this area as "a beautiful, rugged, subtropical landscape”. Through the eyes of our expert field guides you will see this rare and unusual ecosystem come alive with wonder and beauty on a trip you will never forget.
After changing into dry clothes you will have a three-course lunch at a fabulous local landmark restaurant before leaving this fascinating watery world behind.
